Freemasonry and Karate have so many similarities but mainly of self-development, the philosophy of Karate alludes to notions of humility, respect, compassion, patience, and a desire to learn. All those attributes probably seem familiar as we are taught at the first stage of our individual journeys and are carried throughout our career as Masons and Karate Practitioners.
Many martial arts began back in the Ming Dynasty of China, but the more modern-day Japanese system became popular during the early 20th century. The modern style of Karate was said to have been developed from various martial arts and the founder of Shotokan Karate was Gichin Funakoshi who in 1936 built the first official Dojo in Tokyo called Shotokan.
Karate generally began in the UK in the late 1950’s and now there are many Karate associations and clubs just like our Masonic lodges, with members having a general desire to improve themselves and pass on that knowledge and wisdom to others, ring any bells!
Our unique lodge was consecrated back in 2002 following a dream of W. Bro. Robert Eric Michael Randall MBE LGR and with the help of other like-minded Masons formed a lodge that had a keen interest not only in freemasonry but Karate or any other form of Martial arts thereby merging the same common interests.
